I usually agree with Umair's analyses, and this analysis is very good, and an excellent counter to the insane "what about China??" arguments from climate apologists and denialists. Yet, I feel it important to provide people with a sense of efficacy and hope, even within the context of possible social collapse and/or a hot house Earth.

Global society has undergone swift and vast changes--from agrarian to industrial, from industrial (we still are in this to some degree) to technological. What we need now is a change in spirit, or consciousness, so that we understand how much is enough and where happiness actually comes from.

And, even if we are on the Titanic, there are things we can do and ways to prepare, at least emotionally and spiritually.

I keep sharing these two essays I wrote as a mother and climate activist to help balance the flood tide of bad news ... I would also direct people to Jem Bendell's paper and resources around "Deep Adaptation."

You may need to copy and paste these into a browser, or just go to my Medium account. I offer these thoughts with love and the hope that they may be helpful and useful. We can still tend to our mental health and love one another and Earth as much as possible at this critical time. There are no limits to that.
